Genesis serves as the foundation for the rest of the Bible. In its opening verses and chapters, the all-sufficient God speaks the universe into existence. Everything that is, only is because of this sovereign act of his creating power. Genesis is not just a history book or a history of Israel’s religion, but a life-giving proclamation about the hope of Jesus. Throughout this series we will look at the topics of creation, the fall, the flood, faith, faithfulness, family struggle, and failure. We will be challenged to think deeply about the Christ-centered themes of promise, hope, and redemption. Genesis introduces us to the biblical idea of covenants. From Genesis onward, these covenants serve as the foundation for the rest of time. They remind us of God’s unchanging promises amid the shocking and weighty disappointments of our fallen world.
