Thank you for your prayerful consideration of financial giving to North Metro Church through your tithes and offerings. At NMC we believe financial giving is a heart issue. Pray and ask God for wisdom as to how He wants to grow and transform you in the area of giving (James 1:5). It has been said, “Give according to revelation, not rationalization.”

Food for Thought

“The earth is the Lord’s and everything in it, the world and all who live in it” (Psalm 24:1).

God wants us to be obedient and faithful stewards of everything He has given us—our time, talents, and treasure (money). While “treasure” can mean many things, most often it is discussed in terms of finances, financial giving, or financial stewardship. Very often financial giving to the church is expressed by the word “tithe” or tithing.

“Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given order to the churches at Galatia, so you must do also: On the first day of the week let each one of you lay something aside, storing up as he may prosper, that there be no collections when I come” (1 Corinthians 16:1-2).

Notice the words “as he may prosper.” This can also be stated, “in keeping with income.” In the New Testament we do not find any scriptures that suggest or designate a specific percentage that should be given to the church. Paul is saying that believers should set aside a portion of their income to support the church.

“Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver” (2 Corinthians 9:7).

Jesus also gave instruction about the perspective we should have regarding giving, comparing the benefits of “heavenly treasures” versus “earthly treasures.”

“Don’t collect for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal. But collect for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves don’t break in and steal. For where your treasure is there your heart will be also (Matthew 6:19-21).
